Skinny Dog Saved From Starvation Through A Viral Post

Skinny Dog Saved From Starvation Through A Viral Post

Paquita Gillis August 3, 2019

Some skinny dogs on the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana struggle to survive, and they often rely on trash bins for food. This Weimaraner is one of them. Fortunately, someone managed to save this pooch from extreme starvation.

Deanna Theis, an assistant director in Southern Animal Foundation, saw a photo of Alex, a street dog. He’s an extremely thin Weimaraner. She felt sorry for the dog’s condition, so she decided to help Alex.

The staff at the Animal Foundation were amazed to see Alex. Despite his condition, he’s still struggling to stay alive. It’s indeed a miracle because he looks like he only got days left to live. It was a good thing that the shelter took him in before he met an unfortunate fate.

Alex underwent a controlled diet with the help of the Southern Animal Foundation. He needed to build some strength and gain some weight. After 24 hours, the dog managed to gain 2 pounds.

It was devastating for the staff when they found out about Alex’s X-ray results. It revealed that Alex has rocks and sticks on his stomach. It’s as if the dog tried to eat anything to escape starvation.

He needed surgery to remove all the debris. Thankfully, the staff took care of him. Eventually, he put on some weight. The staff also made sure that he will be ready for the fostering and adoption process.

A lot of people sent help and even donated to SAF after seeing Alex’s photos on Facebook. The pooch became a bit of a celebrity, and he also landed a professional photography session.

Finally, Alex’s most anticipated day came. He found his new mom, Diane Lundeen. Now, he’s got a new family with two other Weimaraner siblings. Alex’s life completely turned around for the better.

Now, he’s got bright eyes, and Lundeen couldn’t help but feel proud. Alex definitely loves being alive, and it shows by how lively he is now.

Thanks to the Southern Animal Foundation for this incredible story.
