Greyhounds are bred for entertainment. They are racing dogs. However, several legislations have outlawed such establishments resulting in a number of these dogs being available for adoption. Here’s a story about one of them.
Salem is a greyhound who spent most of her life on the racetrack. She has a record of 159 races. A man named Caleb decided to foster her to get her accustomed to domestic life. Time was a valuable factor for Salem to fully adjust to a new life.
On her first day off the racetrack, Salem spent an entire night inside her kennel. She didn’t come out or eat, which made Caleb concerned. Soon she started to come out and explore the apartment.
Caleb was very patient during foster care. Salem was shy and didn’t know what to do. Salem had an extreme case of separation anxiety and was following Caleb all the time. That was something Caleb worked on.
Caleb took Salem to several places to get her accustomed to going outside. He took her to a store and to places with a lot of people. The place Salem enjoyed the most was at the beach. She loved swimming in the water and running along the sand.
Caleb’s lifestyle wasn’t compatible with Salem. However, he still took the opportunity to foster her. Caleb has a friend named Joel, who had adopted the first dog he fostered. He thought he would be the perfect adopter for Salem.
Salem was introduced to Joel’s other dog, Diver. He was also a greyhound, and the two dogs got along very well. Joel made no second thoughts and adopted Salem.
Caleb was proud of himself. He was happy that he could make Salem experience life outside of the racetrack. It was Joel’s turn to make sure Salem and Diver continue to enjoy their new life.
