Tiny Chihuahua Born Without Front Legs Abandoned By Owners At San Francisco Market Street

Tiny Chihuahua Born Without Front Legs Abandoned By Owners At San Francisco Market Street

Paquita Gillis April 3, 2022

It’s difficult to imagine how someone could dump an adorable tiny pup like Daffodil. Although she has a congenital disability, she doesn’t have front legs, her amiable character and high spirits are more than enough to make anyone fall in love with her.

Sadly,  her nature and character were not enough for her owners. They probably couldn’t handle caring for a special needs dog. So they placed the young pup in a box and abandoned her on the street near a San Francisco market.

Ignored

Even though the street had a lot of foot traffic, nobody noticed when the puppy’s owner left the small brown box behind. What was even sadder was that no one bothered to check on her. A lot of people saw the small chihuahua inside the box, but not a single person stopped to help her. Until Jene, a young local resident walked by.

The kind man looked inside the box and picked up the small dog. He tried asking around if anyone owned the puppy, but no one replied. When Jene saw that Daffodil had no front legs, he felt even more sorry for the poor pup.

Daffodil was wet and cold by that time, so the young guy wrapped her in his shirt and brought the chihuahua home with him. He gave her some food then called the San Francisco SPCA soon after. The shelter agreed to take her in.

New wheels

Because she is still young, Daffodil, like most puppies, is very active and playful. To help her get around, the San Francisco SPCA got her a customized wheelchair. The video in the link below shows how a cast was made to get her precise measurements. It also showed how happy she was when she finally used her wheelchair.

A few weeks later, someone saw Daffodil’s photo on the shelter’s Facebook page and decided to adopt her. The tiny chihuahua’s fate could have been much worse, but thanks to the kindness of one young man, and the dedication of the shelter staff, Daffodil is sure to have a happy life.
