Texas Cyclists Stop Their Ride To Rescue A Dog Stuck On A Bridge Support Beam

Texas Cyclists Stop Their Ride To Rescue A Dog Stuck On A Bridge Support Beam

Paquita Gillis September 13, 2023

Smash Bros Plus One is a group of dedicated cyclists based in Fort Worth, Texas. This close-knit bunch regularly rides every Monday around the city.

One time, they spontaneously decided to do an 80-mile ride to Dallas and back. What would have been a relaxing and worry-free trip turned into an amazing rescue mission.

Abandoned

30 miles out of the city, the cyclists crossed a bridge and saw a woman frantically waving at everyone passing by. It seemed strange for the lady to be standing next to her car, trying to get attention. The cyclists were skeptical at first of her motives. Nevertheless, they stopped when they got near her.

The woman quickly led them to the side of the bridge and pointed toward a pit bull trapped on top of a concrete support beam. The pooch was around 15 feet below them and was sitting in a narrow space. There was nowhere for her to go, which made the group wonder how she got there in the first place.

It was likely that someone threw her there.

Brave man

The cyclists discussed ways to get to the dog and take her out of her predicament. They had difficulties figuring out what to do. But then, a truck pulled over beside them, and it had a ladder on its pickup bed. They borrowed the ladder, and one of the cyclists bravely went down to where the dog was.

For the next 15 minutes, the courageous man sat beside the dog, talking to her and trying to gain her trust. When the rescuer noticed that the pooch was getting comfortable with his presence, he calmly picked her up and passed the pit bull to his friends on the bridge.

After several minutes, animal control officers arrived and scanned the dog for a microchip. He had none.

The cyclists’ job wasn’t done yet. Because the local shelters were filled, there was nowhere for the dog to go. So they took the pit bull and got in touch with a local rescue group. They convinced them to take her in.

The dog is now living in a foster home and will soon be found a forever family.
