Valia Orfanidou, the video creator and founder of The Orphan Pet, together with her friend Marcia, provides volunteer works in animal shelters in Greece. They help homeless dogs find their homes. They also offer their helping hands in rescuing and rehabilitating animals, providing them with their medical needs, and fostering them until their forever families arrive.
Lydia, for instance, was one of the many fortunate dogs taken care of by Valia. When the rescuer found her, the poor dog was near-death. Valia and Marcia loaded her into their car and rushed her to the nearest emergency animal hospital.
At the back of their minds, the rescuers knew Lydia had very little chance of survival. The wounds on her belly have infections, and she barely breathed. But still, the rescuers had to try.
When the ladies placed Lydia on the examination table, the surgeon thought the dog was already dead. They all agreed that saving her life was a challenge. And there’s no assurance that Lydia would survive.
The vets prepped Lydia for emergency surgery. The most significant tumor on her breast collapsed, and it exposed her to infection. Because she needed to stay at the hospital for a few days, Valia left and went home.
As Valia arrived in her home, she saw the bed she prepared for Lydia. She thought she’d have to remove it because the dog won’t be able to use it anyway. She’d never see Lydia alive again, she told herself.
After a few days of waiting, Valia’s phone rang, and it was the vet. She prepped herself for the worse and thought that they called to ask her to come and pick up Lydia’s remains. To her surprise, the doctor said the operation was a success, and Lydia was on her way to recovery.
Valia cried tears of joy. She couldn’t believe Lydia pulled through. She knew she was a miracle, so she promised to provide her the best life.
Lydia spent the next five months with Valia. And in no time, she was finally cancer-free. Valia took her to the airport and kissed her goodbye. It was a bitter-sweet moment because Valia left to join her new forever family.
