Mello was a homeless dog that found his forever home by being in the right place at the right time. She met the right person and his fate changed dramatically. Thanks to this kind woman, Emily, he has found his forever home.
Porch
Emily first learned about Mello when one of their neighbors started contacting them. She was on vacation at that time and would check on her home security camera sporadically. Then one day, she saw a stray dog wander into her porch and stay there. The dog slept on her porch and then would leave. He would then come back later.
The woman on vacation called her neighbors and urged them to find help for the homeless pooch. They tried to go and catch him, but the dog was too fast.
Come in
One day, while Emily was walking her two dogs, Mello suddenly showed up near them. She turned around to say hi and she could see that the dog was anxious and very shy. He wouldn’t look at her but he just sat there. When they went home, the dog followed them into their backyard.
Emily noticed that the dog was skinny so she thought that he might be hungry. He got him some food which he devoured right away. Although he was eating the food, Mello still seemed nervous. So Emily left him alone and went inside the house. After a short while, the dog started peeking inside.
The kind woman asked her if he wanted to come in and slowly, he crept inside. He looked around sheepishly, trying to assess his situation. He then found a spot where he settled in. Mello stayed there for the night.
The next day, he seemed more comfortable about being around Emily and her dogs. He even started to wag his tail a bit. Emily then took him to a vet where they examined him. Thankfully, he didn’t have any health conditions, but he was underweight.
New home
Emily decided to foster him while she started looking for someone to take him permanently. During his stay, Mello started to open up and learn how it was to be a house dog. He built an amazing friendship with Emily’s two dogs and even started to initiate contact with people. After several months, Mello moved in with his new dad.
