If you see a dog looming over your daughter as she lies unmoving on the ground, you would most definitely conclude that the dog may have caused your daughter to be in that situation. You fear that your daughter may have injuries. It is a horrifying scene, and the DeLuca family in Florida experienced it.
The DeLuca family has always gotten their pet dogs from animal shelters. They value second chances and have always adopted from animal shelters.
After the passing of their last dog, they decided to adopt another dog from the local animal shelter. They chose a German Shepherd named Haus.
Haus was already 2 years old when the family adopted him. He adapted quickly to his new family and permanent home. He has also become protective of his human siblings. But he is also like other dogs who love to have fun.
Everything appeared to be going very nicely for the DeLuca household. However, something happened that nearly led to disaster.
One day, Haus and Molly, one of the DeLuca children, decided it would be fun to play in the yard. Molly was collecting dog toys in the backyard when Haus began jumping excitedly.
Molly’s father explained that Haus lunged at his daughter, who fell to the ground and began yelling Haus’s name to stop. But Haus would not stop jumping.
Molly’s father quickly went over to stop the dog and he immediately realized why Haus was acting differently.
There was an eastern diamondback rattlesnake in the backyard. It is one of the most venomous snake species in North America and could have killed a youngster with ease. Haus apparently saw the threat and shielded Molly with his body to prevent her from being bitten by the snake. Haus was bitten three times while protecting Molly, but he kept his ground.
The snake fled and Haus was left in a bad state. He was severely limping and was unable to even lift his head. The DeLuca family took Haus to the nearest veterinary clinic, where he was administered nine vials of antivenin to fight the snake’s poison.
Haus made a full recovery, and the DeLuca family could not be more pleased. They are grateful to Haus for protecting Molly.
