Former Bait Dog Living In Connecticut With New Owner Returns To South Carolina To Thank The People Who Saved His Life

Former Bait Dog Living In Connecticut With New Owner Returns To South Carolina To Thank The People Who Saved His Life

Paquita Gillis November 21, 2023

Officers from the York County Animal Control Office in South Carolina received a call one day about a severely injured dog lying by the side of a dirt road. The caller said the pit bull was in terrible shape. His face was riddled with wounds, both old and new. Worst of all, his ears were missing.

The rescuers rushed to the location and brought the wounded pooch to an animal hospital. Along the way, their worst fears were confirmed. The canine’s injuries were consistent with those that bait dogs would have. These poor creatures usually have their back legs tied and then hung so that fighting dogs can learn how to attack and be vicious.

Recovery

The pit bull, later named Scooter, was given surgery and medication for the next five days. He was then released to an experienced foster volunteer to recover fully. A nonprofit rescue group helped shoulder his medical bills. It took three months before his wounds healed.

Incredibly, despite having a past of abuse and violence from humans, Scooter seemed to have forgotten it all. He adored the attention he got from the people who patiently cared for him. He was happy and loving. This is why he found his forever home in Connecticut five months after his rescue.

Appreciation

When he was three years old, almost two years after he was found dying by the side of a road, Scooter and his owner went to York County to thank all the people who became a part of his recovery journey. He visited the Animal Control Office and thanked the officer who made his swift rescue. He also went to the animal hospital and thanked the medical team who meticulously took care of him. Scooter and his owner also attended a picnic to see his medical foster mom.

If it weren’t for them, he wouldn’t be where he is today. His mom is also grateful for the unselfish efforts they made to save a dying dog.
