Protecting and serving the community is among the main tasks of a police officer. Communities, though, do not only comprise of people but also of house pets like dogs and cats. The duty of a police officer extends to ensuring that animals like dogs can thrive in a peaceful environment.

In the past, we have read stories about local police officers helping stray and injured dogs. Lucky for one pit bull in New Jersey, police officers came to help him when he need help the most. On January 2, members of the Mount Laurel Police Department came across a white and gray pit bull wandering the busy streets.

At first, the police officers thought that the dog is walking on his way home. However, it became apparent to the police that the pit bull. As such, the police officers, headed by Officer Matthew O’Hanlon, decided to go near the dog.

As they interacted with the dog, Officer Matthew and his team noticed that the pit bull had a forehead injury. Due to the injury, the police officers to bring the poor dog to a local veterinary clinic to get medical care. At the clinic, the veterinarian assured Officer Matthew and his team that the dog’s condition is not severe.

With the vet’s assurance, the other policemen decided to go back to their headquarters to do other jobs. Officer Matthew decided to stay because he wants to ensure that the dog’s condition is all good.

When the vet was done treating the dog’s injury, he advised that the dog should be transferred to the Burlington Country Animal Shelter. This was the time that Officer Matthew told the vet that he is going to adopt the pit bull for good. It was not a difficult decision on his part because Officer Matthew has been looking for a dog to adopt ever since his previous dog died.
