At An Agility Competition, A Vivacious Papillon Blazes Like A Bullet

At An Agility Competition, A Vivacious Papillon Blazes Like A Bullet

Papillons are intelligent little dogs, and many consider them to be the smartest small breed dog in the world. But did you know they’re also lightning-fast?

In this remarkable agility run at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Masters Agility Championship, Gabby the Pappy showed us exactly how fast she is.

She won the 8″ division with a time of 39.31 and she was the only little dog to break the 40-second barrier that day.

This is how it all went. She was off like a shot from a gun, alright! She flew through the hoop over the dog walk as if it were a walk in the park. It was a lightning-quick walk.

She flew through the tubes like a dog from a slingshot. She then launched over a couple more jumps. She moved so fast, pausing perfectly on the teeter-totter. She is so light, she had to wait on one of the ends before it tipped.

Gabby even ran around a couple of jumps twice, missed a few turns, and still completed the course in record time.

She gracefully flew between the weave posts, stretching and releasing them like a rubber band. Then she sprinted across the finish line to get a succession of adorable high fives from Andrea Samuels, her owner and trainer.

You can see how difficult it was for Andrea to keep up with Gabby because she was racing so fast if you watch the video again. Those lovely little legs were surely moving madly.

Verb, a Border Collie, won the overall championship in the larger dog division with an amazing performance of 32.05 seconds.

While the larger dogs are generally faster, there is something magical about witnessing a small dog compete in these races. Because they are so little, they appear to move really quickly. I must say, it was a lot of fun to see Gabby tear up the course.
