Abandoned Overweight Dog Finally Has Forever Home

Abandoned Overweight Dog Finally Has Forever Home

Paquita Gillis August 10, 2020

Dogs are loved globally for numerous reasons. Rescued dogs, however, don’t get as much love and care. Fortunately for them, animal shelter and volunteers have kind hearts that are willing to help them.

Arbuckle’s story

The rescuers of a local shelter found Arbuckle, an overweight dog, lying in a field. Dogs like him should weigh about fifty pounds, but he weighed a hundred and sixteen pounds. Because Arbuckle was so heavy, the rescuers had to call other volunteers to bring them a crate that had wheels.

Laura, another volunteer at the shelter, received news that there was a newly rescued dog. When she saw Arbuckle and his condition, she offered to foster him.

Arbuckle arrived at the shelter, looking uncomfortable. The stress on his joints was so severe he couldn’t even stand up on his own to pee.

Laura was determined to help Arbuckle become healthy. She was willing to do everything in her power to help.

On the car ride home, Arbuckle was silently lying on the back seat. Laura was concerned that he wasn’t going to survive.

The first couple of days, Arbuckle had no idea what was going on. Laura tried her best to be gentle with him and make him feel safe and comfortable.

It was evident that Arbuckle was depressed. His ears were down, and he refused to move since his weight makes him immobile. Arbuckle had to face a lot of challenges, but his foster mom was beside him every step of the way.

Laura put Arbuckle on a raw diet and had a waist supporter that she would need to hold to life and guide the dog in walking.

Road to recovery

After five weeks of being fostered, Laura noticed Arbuckle’s progress. The dog lost ten pounds and could walk a few feet at a time.

Jane and Jennifer Lynch were a couple that wanted to adopt Arbuckle. At the time the dog was being fostered, they researched how to take care of an overweight canine.

The couple was determined to give Arbuckle the life he deserved. After everything Arbuckle has been through, he finally got to be a normal dog.
