Therapy Dog Makes Daily Rounds At The Hospital To Cheer Up Patients

Paquita Gillis October 9, 2021

These days, you will meet a lot of therapy dogs. These dogs went through training to provide comfort, joy, and support to people. They often visit places like hospitals, schools, retirement homes, and even disaster-struck areas.

Since 2007, Fraser, a black lab-golden mix, was a part of HCA Virginia’s unique Pet Therapy program. Fraser has brought comfort, compassion, and joy to innumerable patients and workers at Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals.

Fraser started his day by traveling to a specific location for a visit. He went around meeting people who could benefit from his pleasant presence.

Fraser normally does hospital rounds. He meets patients suffering from serious ailments and needed some cheers and support.

Patients become comfortable, joyful, and energetic when Fraser is around. The dog has brought smiles to his patients.

The therapy dog would stay at the patient’s side or accompany them up to the bed. This gesture makes the patients feel at ease and calm.

A lot of hospitals request the services of Fraser. They needed someone to brighten up and lighten their patients’ spirits.

Most of the time, they let Fraser visit patients that feel depressed and hopeless. Their interaction with Fraser helped them feel happy.

When duty calls, Fraser knew he needed to put smiles on the faces of the patients. His charms would easily melt the hearts of those who interact with him.

Fraser is friendly, sweet, and cuddly. Every patient who meets Fraser would feel happy to see him.

Though the dog is not a medical professional, his presence alone helped the patients forget about their fears, pain, and worries. Interaction with a friendly and sweet dog like Fraser is truly therapeutic.

At the end of the day, Fraser comes home to his family. He appreciated having a good rest and spending quality time with his loved ones. Besides, despite his work as a therapy dog, he is still his family’s favorite pet.
