Tzar, a Caucasian Ovchakra from Huddersfield, United Kingdom, was initially purchased to become a guard dog. His owner spent $4,500 to buy him but ended up turning him over to the West Yorkshire Dog Rescue after having issues with his size.
From Russia to the UK
Caucasian Ovcharkas grow up to 225 pounds. This rare breed requires a special kind of home given their size and nutritional needs. At ten months old, Tzar already weighed 140 pounds, making it difficult for his previous owner to take care of him. Moreover, Tzar was on his way to becoming the world’s largest puppy!
A special kind of home
Kathy Trout, one of the volunteers of the rescue group, believes it will take a lot of effort to take care of Tzar. The person has to have a huge heart for animals since Tzar needs patience, discipline, and stability. It would help a lot of Tzar gets adopted into a home that has enough space for him to move around.
Caucasian Ovcharkas tend to be aggressive, but despite that, Tzar remains to be a gentle soul. No mean bone exists in hist body, and that is one of the many things that Trout loves about him. He is very playful, and he loves receiving hugs and kisses from the volunteers at the shelter. They like having him around because he’s like a giant teddy bear.
Tzar is a highly intelligent dog who has the capacity to kill wolves once he reaches his full growth. This is why for Trout, it’s important that his future parents understand his nature so they know how to assist him.
Months after staying in the shelter, Tzar was fostered in a smallholding where he got to mingle with horses, cows, cats, and other dogs. Watch his story here:
