Marilyn Blackmer is a retiree who lives in an Orlando senior facility along with her six-year-old pet named Buddy. The elderly lady enjoys her home’s peaceful and quiet surroundings and would often go out on walks with her Labradoodle. They would go to the nearby park where they could play with other dogs or talk to the other senior residents living there.
When they are not out and about, Marilyn will train Buddy. She teaches her pet various tricks and to follow specific commands. It’s a bonding time for the two of them, and the dog also learns how to help his doting mom.
Through the years, the two have formed a strong bond, and Marilyn thinks this is why Buddy acted immediately when he saw her life was in danger.
Dog buddies
One day, Marilyn and Buddy were out on their usual walk when the dog owner suddenly felt dizzy and passed out. She fell into the grass and remained motionless, despite the dog trying to wake her up. The pooch sensed that something was wrong and ran across the park. He went to a house familiar to him.
As soon as he got there, Buddy started barking, calling out for his friend, a four-year-old Maltese named Sammy. Somehow, Buddy was able to let his friend know that he needed help. Sammy then went to his owner, another retiree named Alice Joosens, and woke her up from her nap.
Felt so alone
While Buddy was looking for help, Marilyn regained consciousness, but she was too weak to stand up. She called out to her pet, but there was no response. The senior woman said she felt vulnerable and lonely being alone and lying on the grass. But then, She heard her neighbor, Alice, rushing to her side.
As it turned out, once Alice was awakened, she followed her yapping dog to the door. From the window, she then saw Marilyn on the ground. She then called 911 and went to check on her friend. Responders arrived a few minutes later and took the retiree to the hospital.
Buddy is now being hailed a hero for helping save his owner. Marilyn was released soon after and recovered from her fall.
