Senior Dog Left Behind By Her Family Gets Rescued

Senior Dog Left Behind By Her Family Gets Rescued

Paquita Gillis January 17, 2021

Senior dogs should live in comfort while living out their remaining years. However, not every one of them gets to experience that kind of treatment.

Just take, for example, Athena. This dog’s family left her behind when they moved to another home. They didn’t even bother taking off her chains and just left her there, all alone.

Athena always looked so sad and broken down. She has lived her life with her family, but now they left her for good! How heartbreaking it must be for her.

The senior dog didn’t have a way to find food or water because of her chains. So, she just weakly watched cars passing by, hoping that one of them would help her.

Thankfully, rescuer Laurica Nagel heard about Athena and rushed to the scene. She then brought her to the medical clinic.

Despite not having food or water for days, she stayed incredibly healthy. She had few ticks and fleas here and there with one blind eye, but there was nothing else.

Not long after, a family offered to foster her. There she had lots of furry companions and received never-ending love and care.

The shelter was generally worried that she might not be adopted because of her age. But after a couple of social media posts, a family adopted her!

Knowing that Athena already has a new family is enough to know that she’ll spend her final days in comfort. Her previous family may not see it, but she’s as precious as the other younger dogs.

This story should be an eye-opener for families with pets that there are lots of options aside from abandonment. There’s a reason why local rescue groups exist. With the right effort and dedication, a dog owner can always find ways.
