Retired Army Officer Battles Against An Alligator To Save His Rescue Dog

Retired Army Officer Battles Against An Alligator To Save His Rescue Dog

Paquita Gillis July 10, 2020

Dogs will do everything to protect their owners, even if it means risking their own lives. But if it happens vice versa, will a dog owner save his or her dog, too? This was the dilemma that Trent Tweeddale recently encountered when his pooch, Loki, was involved in an altercation with an alligator.

According to Trent, he and Loki are on their usual strolling in Wesley Chapel, Florida, one beautiful morning. During their walk, Loki stopped by a lake to drink water. Suddenly an alligator appeared in front of the pooch. Loki was clueless that an alligator was on the water, so the pooch failed to react immediately.

Trent got also caught off guard, but the dog owner was quick on his toes in saving the pooch from apparent danger. The man is a former army staff sergeant, so he knows basic self-defense. Quick on his feet, Trent grabbed the dog’s collar while the alligator tried to wrestle with the pooch. Good thing, Loki was safe after this unfortunate incident.

In an interview, the former army sergeant recalled how he ended up in a tug-of-war competition against the alligator. Trent said that the water animal was too sturdy, but the man was persistent to save his dog’s life.

For Trent, it was all adrenaline rush. After the tug-of-war battle against the alligator, Trent went back to his senses. During that time, he realized that what he did was dangerous. But this was the little of his concern because all he wanted to do was make sure Loki was safe.

What Trent did was brave, but according to him, he only did what he thought was the right thing. The pooch incurred minor injuries on his foot due to the attack. However, Trent said that the pooch is already recuperating from the incident.
