When dogs experience trauma from humans, it’s hard for them to trust humans again. Dogs that are victims of abuse will even be cautious of people trying to rescue them. We have to understand that these dogs will act aggressively and may even try biting people to defend themselves.
It’s hard for these puppies to adjust even after they are rescued and given love by their rescuers. A tiny puppy named Heather was rescued from a horrible situation. Because of Heather’s past experiences with humans, she didn’t trust people. Heather was considered a bite risk, and rescuers tried and failed petting Heather.
Eventually, the rescue organization responsible for Heather thought that getting Heather to live in a home environment would help her overcome her fear of humans. The rescue organization decided to call on one of their foster partners named Niko. Of course, they warned Niko that Heather’s a bite risk and can prove to be a challenge to handle.
Niko knew that she was going to make a difference in Heather’s life. When Niko first got Heather home, Heather refused to get out of her crate. Niko left the crate open so Heather can come out whenever she likes. However, Heather refused to get out of the crate. Niko tried making Heather more comfortable and at ease by petting her.
Heather was afraid of Niko’s hands, but she wasn’t scared of the treats. Niko decided to pet Heather using a treat, which worked. When Heather calmed down, Niko was able to pet Heather on her back using her hands. Niko was also able to encourage Heather to get out of the crate after a few failed attempts.
Heather proved quite challenging to handle and even tried biting Niko a few times. However, Niko was undeterred, and she wanted to make Heather feel loved. So, Niko decided to take Heather out on a walk, which surprisingly went smoothly.
After the walk, Niko was even more surprised when Heather came up to and leaned on Niko. It seemed that Heather finally understood that she’s with a good person and a safe environment. Niko was even able to clip Heather’s nail without any problems at all.
Eventually, Heather was adopted by a loving family who gave her everything she needed. The person who adopted Heather even got her a dog bed with a top covering to make her feel like she’s in a crate, which was comfortable for Heather. Here’s a video showing how a pooch considered a bite risk became an adorable dog that loves cuddling.
