A concerned citizen emailed Hope For Paws about a pregnant stray Pit Bull. Hope For Paws is a non-profit animal rescue organization whose mission is to bring abandoned animals off dangerous streets and into permanent homes. Volunteers of the organization, JoAnn Wiltz and Katie McKittrick, rushed to the reported location to rescue the pregnant canine.
When they arrived, they were then informed by a neighbor about where he had spotted the pregnant dog – in the field next to his home. Indeed, the expecting dog was there.
Typically, a pregnant dog is apprehensive of strangers and frequently violent when approached too closely. Nonetheless, this grateful mother-to-be galloped toward her rescuers and greeted them with a cheerful demeanor. She also wanted the wonderful snacks they had for her.
It was a simple rescue, and they gave the pregnant dog the name Waffles. They brought her back to the veterinary hospital, where a veterinarian examined her and performed an ultrasound to actually determine how far along she was in her pregnancy. Waffles smiled the loveliest smile while being examined, as if she knew she was in good hands!

One small puppy was seen emerging from Waffles. She cleaned the puppy with her tongue and removed the sac that protected the puppies in her womb. She consumed the sac for sustenance as she continued with the rest of her litter. Waffles gave birth to a total of six puppies – four boys and two females.
The dog family was saved just in time, and they are currently doing well, thanks to the rescuers.
