Everyone experiences tough and rough days and when these days come, quality time with a good canine friend might just be the thing to help us out. And that is what Nor’Wester Therapy Dogs, a Richboro-based non-profit composed of trained pups and handlers, are there for. They partner with school districts in the area to introduce therapy dogs to kids and educate them about the role and importance of these dogs.
And just recently, six therapy dogs and their handlers from Nor’Wester visited Camp Newtown. The kids had a chance to pet the dogs, cuddle and play with them, and also ask questions about them.
One of the therapy dogs that the kids met was a Portuguese Water Dog named Daisy who was undeniably excited to meet them. In fact, Daisy even wriggled her way to attract the attention of sisters Harlow and Panther Whippet. Then there was also Tex, a Great Pyrenees Lab mix, who didn’t like the sound of camera shutters but loved the kids. And despite the initial barrier, he quickly gained friends among the kids.
The kids also met the two-year-old pup Cadence who sat still at attention and greeted the kids with her tail wagging excitedly. And of course, they also got to play with the newer addition to the Nor’Western team, a young pup named Journey. Ever since Journey made the team, she has been quite a favorite thanks to her many tricks that impressed the kids.
And all of these dogs reveled in the attention that was given to them and their joy was definitely contagious. And so, in turn, the kids were also able to spend a really good time with the dogs. This is one of the many things that therapy dogs help people in situations and what Nor’Western always tries to advocate.
