Leaving your dogs all alone when you go for work or run errands is enough torture but knowing that your dog is in danger while you’re not there is so much worse. That’s what happened to Patrick Otis.
When his house in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, was lit in flames, he wasn’t worried about his belongings or even his home. Instead, Patrick was worried about his dog, who was probably still waiting for him to go home. He was too far away, and there’s no way he could get there fast.
On the other hand, while the house was in flames, a former medical technician named Joe Loduha passed by the scene. He personally didn’t know the people living there, but there was something in him that made him stop.
As the neighbors were busy calling the fire department, he asked only one question, “Are there any people inside?” The people were unsure if there were humans inside, but they were pretty sure that a dog named Darma is there.
That was enough to make Joe launch from his place and ran to the front door where the flames haven’t reached yet. He was no hero, but he was willing to risk his life to save poor Darma.
As soon as he came bursting in the front door, he saw Darma sitting comfortably on the couch. She wasn’t in a state of panic and just looked at Joe as if she wanted to go out. The hero immediately carried her outside to safety.
To make sure that no humans were inside, Joe double-backed and checked every room. But when the smoke got worse, he retreated and went to safety as well.
Aside from having little cuts from breaking down the door and inhaling excessive smoke, Joe was otherwise in good condition. Thankfully, the rescue team arrived soon after they got out.
The distressed owner Patrick was finally at ease. He is beyond grateful for Joe Loduha’s kindness and promptness to act during an emergency. Kudos to you, Joe!
