For shelter dogs to get adopted, they need to make a strong first impression. Potential adopters usually breeze by kennels looking for a dog that makes the biggest impact on them. Usually, young and playful dogs catch their eye and dogs like Banjo, they tend to get left behind. In fact, Banjo has been with the Gloucester-Matthews Humane Society for more than three years.
Shy dog
Banjo was just a few months old when he was found in the woods and brought to the shelter. Although he was a very spirited dog, Banjo’s mood tends to be dampened whenever he was put inside a kennel. Outside in the yard, Banjo loved to play. He would run, jump, and have an active lifestyle. He especially loves taking walks in the woods.
Because of the complete turnaround of his personality whenever he is inside. People tend to pass him. They don’t get to see how much fun and a free-spirited dog he is. Inside the kennel, he tends to stay in the farthest corner with the saddest look in his face.
To help him out, the people at the shelter put him in various behavioral training and programs. This program aims to help dogs to become more comfortable around the company of people. Slowly he became more sociable, but he just doesn’t feel comfortable inside the shelter. Banjo needs a person or a family that leads an active lifestyle as well.
Banjo’s true character
For people to get to know the real Banjo, the shelter reached out to a local news channel. Hopefully, many people can see the side of Banjo that the shelter only sees. And through that, the right person or family for Banjo would step up and give him a second chance that he deserves.
Their plan worked. After Banjo’s story came out, dozens of people came in to fill out an adoption application for the dog. And just a few days later, Banjo went home with his new family. He may not have the best first impression, but will surely give an impression that lasts a lifetime.
