Dog Who Was Born Deaf Has Never Heard A Bark, Invents Her Very Own Way Of Speaking

Paquita Gillis February 8, 2021

Reggie is a sweet rescue dog who lives her life in a world of silence. Reggie’s family is convinced that she was born deaf. Therefore, chances are, she hasn’t heard what a pup sounds like.

However, that has never stopped Reggie from inventing a “bark” that is all her own.

Even though Reggie maybe does not have any idea of what a bark may sound like, she has become familiar with the physical movement associated with it, since she had watched some dogs speak. And, obviously, Reggie ended up with a conclusion. She thought of a pretty good way to get attention.

Therefore, one day, Reggie decided to give it a try herself. It was a really great surprise to her family. Typically, she doesn’t make any peep at all.

Reggie’s mom, Lindsay Kelly, said it absolutely took her minutes to learn what she’s doing. Kelly thought it was just a cough or sneeze at first. However, when Reggie kept on doing it and looking at her as she did, Kelly realized that she was trying to convey something.

Here’s a video of Reggie in action. Kelly is obviously very proud of her achievement.

The sweet deaf pup had finally found her voice. From that moment on, she has been using it.

Reggie’s bark may adorably be unusual. However, the greatest part of it is that it works. Kelly knows what to listen for, while Reggie is always happy to know that she is being heard.

Kelly added that Reggie is very proud when she does her own unique bark. Now, she usually does it when she is attempting to get their attention in some way. Sometimes, she does her bark at the pantry door if she wants something to eat.

And can anyone in their house say “no” to that? Surely, no one, especially her adoring mom.

Kelly said that Reggie could be able to get everything she wants with her fake barks.
