Brave Labrador Chases Away Wild Coyote Attacking His Little Boston Terrier Sister

Brave Labrador Chases Away Wild Coyote Attacking His Little Boston Terrier Sister

Coyotes can look like adorable and friendly creatures. But make no mistake – they are ferocious predators of smaller animals and can attack anytime. Some coyotes have become invasive and would go inside human settlements to find food. This was the case in a home in Huntington Beach, California.

A small Boston Terrier named Sadie was almost the victim of a coyote attack when the creature entered their yard. Her humans saw what was happening but they were in shock and couldn’t do anything. Fortunately, a furry member of their family came to the rescue.

Shaken hard

Freddy and Melissa Patriarca are Huntington Beach residents that live with their five young children and three dogs. One night, the couple was startled when they heard a loud and frightening scream coming from their yard. They ran to the monitor of their home security cameras and what they saw stunned them.

A coyote was biting Sadie’s neck and shaking the small black pooch very hard. Freddy wanted to go and save the dog, but he feared that the coyote would attack him and his family if he opened the door. But before he could even make a decision, something incredible happened.

The coyote dropped Sadie and started running away. This was because Cody, the family’s labrador, came rushing in.

Brotherly love

Cody was much larger than the coyote, which scared the wild creature. When the usually gentle dog saw that his little sister was in trouble, he immediately started barking furiously and ran toward the attacker. Frightened by the image of the rushing pooch, the coyote fled and jumped over the wall.

Even with the predator gone, Cody, Sadie, and their other dog, Zoey, started sniffing around, ensuring that there were no other unwanted visitors.

As soon as the couple was assured that the coyote was gone, they went out and rushed Sadie to a vet. There she got treated for some bite wounds. She was also given antibiotics to fight any infection. Thankfully, she had no major injuries.

The video of the attack went viral online, and many people praised Cody for saving his little sister.
