Have you ever wondered how many dogs are abandoned outdoors every day? The number, for sure, is unimaginable, which only means that there are many people who abuse animals. But it’s a nice reminder that every once in a while, there are still caring people who save abandoned dogs and fight for their rights.
One dog in Ohio was left freezing in the rain. Fortunately, the pup was saved by animal officials. The rescue prompted the said officials to make a desperate plea to pet owners to take care of their furry pals.
Discovering the cold pup
According to the dog law enforcer Mahoning County Dog Wardens Office, the pooch was discovered inside a cage that had been abandoned on the northside of Youngstown, an industrial city in the state of Ohio. The said department shared on Facebook that someone wrote the word “FREE” on one side of the crate.
Police officers immediately took the pup to a local shelter where it would undergo the prescribed quarantine. Dianne Fry, the chief of the Mahoning County Dog Wards, stressed that they wanted to make sure that the dog was healthy. Once the dog was cleared, the pup would be up for adoption.
Authorities ask the public to do the right thing
The case of the abandoned puppy quickly prompted the authorities to remind people that dogs were supposed to be kept indoors, especially during cold seasons. In a Facebook post, the Mahoning County Dog Warden said that cats and dogs depended on humans to survive. And since humans had domesticated them, they were their responsibility; they deserved love and care.
A law in Ohio limits the period of time over pets’ confinement. If the animal has been confined for more than 15 hours without food or water, any person is allowed to rescue it. Similarly, Youngstown also has city ordinances designed to keep pets from being left out in the cold. Violations of the said ordinance may result in fines and jail time.
