Dog rescuers have probably seen the most horrific things in life. Angela Adan, who works at Marley’s Mutts, a nonprofit dog rescue organization, knows how hard it is to maintain a calm demeanor during rescue operations. She needs to be strong to reassure all the poor dogs she is trying to save.
Meeting a little Chihuahua mix tested Angela’s resolve. When she first saw the tiny pup cowering under a car, she could not help but cry. She drove four long hours to rescue the little pooch, but it was all worth it. Angela carefully secured her in a cozy blanket and brought her home.
Upon further assessment, Angela was able to determine the dog’s real condition. The tiny pooch whom she named Freddie Mercury was suffering from serious dental issues and severe malnutrition. But her most obvious problem was having deformed front legs. They were splayed, which makes moving very hard for Freddie.
As Angela tried to comfort Freddie, she unexpectedly licked the rescuer’s face as if trying to convey her gratitude. Angela was so touched by the absolute trust Freddie was giving her that she decided right there and then to adopt the tiny pooch. She knew then that Freddie fits right in with her fur family consisting of six other rescues, most of them also with special needs.
Freddie is now enjoying the best doggy life ever. The charming dog loves giving Angela sweet doggy kisses. The tiny survivor has also learned how to navigate around using her hind legs, which makes her look more like a kangaroo or a tiny T-Rex.
Angela is aware that Freddie’s health issues could greatly affect her expected lifespan. But what she learned from fostering dogs with special needs is trying to live in the present. She is treasuring every moment with Freddie and making sure that she can feel all the love and affection she truly deserves.
