A lot of people out there wish they could adopt a dog, but they simply couldn’t. There are plenty of factors that people need to consider before adopting a dog, and one of these is their financial situation. It’s sad to admit, but it is true. If you wish to have a dog of your own, you need to be able to provide for them.
Some dogs don’t ask for a lot, just food and shelter, but getting the dogs in the first place can be costly. On average, adopting a dog from an animal shelter can cost a person around $150. This is for the adoption fee, alone. There are hundreds of people out there who want to adopt shelter dogs, but they just don’t have the extra cash to do it.
But the residents of Kansas City are lucky to have Derrick Nnadi. The defensive tackle for the Chiefs is a dog person, and now that he’s earning a lot of money, he wanted to do something to help shelter dogs. It all started with just one dog. Every time they win, he paid for the adoption fee of one pup.
But then they reached the Superbowl, the biggest sporting event in America. He wanted to go all out if they won the big one, and luckily for the shelter dogs at KC Pet Project, the Chiefs won. Because of their victory, he paid for the adoption fees of 100 shelter dogs.
His actions even inspired Ellen DeGeneres and Rachael Ray to step in and make donations. They vowed to provide a year’s supply of dog food for those who will be adopting the pups from that particular shelter. Those who’ve been wanting to adopt a shelter dog, but couldn’t do it because they couldn’t afford it went to the shelter right away.
When asked why Derrick did it, he explained that he has always loved dogs. He actually planned on doing it during his first season in the NFL, but there were too many things going on, and he did not have the time for it. Derrick is also a dog dad to two lucky pups named Rocky and Saint.
