In 2018, a two-year-old Chihuahua caught the attention of dog-loving individuals from Des Moines, Iowa, after the cute pooch got dumped by his original owner. The pooch was left in a dumpster – alone and anxious.
Good thing, a volunteer from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa passed by the area where the pooch was left. The volunteer rescued the pooch and brought him to the center. At the center, they checked the pooch for possible injuries.
The veterinarian found out that the Chihuahua was malnourished. Aside from this, all his vital signs were okay. The rescue group focused on the dog’s recovery by feeding him and providing him with vitamins.
After a few months, the Chihuahua regained his weight. The volunteers of the rescue group then named the pooch Oscar. When Oscar’s condition got better, Tina Updegrove, one of the volunteers at the shelter, agreed to foster the pooch. This is only temporary as other volunteers look for Oscar’s permanent home.
But after day one that Oscar was under Tina’s custody, the volunteer and her husband decided to keep the pooch for good. Tina said that her husband, Tony, told her that he wants Oscar to stay in their home for good.
According to Tina, her husband loved Oscar because the dog appreciated the man’s musical talent. Tina’s husband plays harmonica. One day, when Tony was playing the harp, Oscar started to howl in the tune of Tony’s instrument. This made Tony very happy. It is as if the dog is appreciative of Tony, Tina said.
While Oscar had an ugly past, this does not mean that he does not deserve to start life anew. Tina said that they are willing to give the pooch the home he truly deserves – where he and his talents in singing will thrive.
