After being rescued and placed in an animal shelter, many strays have difficulty adjusting to their new situation. Given that the shelter can be a frightening environment for dogs, we cannot blame them. It is a loud and stressful place, and many of the animals there have been abused or neglected.
They also distrust people, and gaining their trust will require much effort. Some dogs are so terrified of humans that they only want to sit in a corner.
Chloe, a rescued dog, was scared of humans. She spent her time in the animal shelter sitting in one corner and just facing the wall. Chloe merely desired anonymity, and it was painful to observe her struggle.
Thankfully, Shira Scott Astrof, an animal rescuer and the founder of The Animal Rescue Mission, realized that Chloe needed to leave the animal shelter and be placed in a foster home. If Chloe remained in the stressful atmosphere of the animal shelter, she would eventually become so scared of humans that it would be nearly impossible to help her. There was a chance Chloe would have been euthanized.
Shira looked for individuals willing to foster Chloe. She was eventually able to locate a man named Darvish. After speaking with Darvish, they arranged for him to meet Chloe at the shelter and take her home. It took Shira and Darvish a considerable amount of time to convince Chloe to leave her kennel for a short walk.
Chloe began touring Darvish’s home when she eventually arrived there. She discovered a corner in Darvish’s bedroom where she felt most at ease, and she preferred to sleep there. Naturally, Darvish allowed her to sleep in his bedroom for her first night in her new residence.
Chloe required some time to fully decompress, but thanks to Darvish, she began to regain her trust in humans. Chloe would now follow Darvish wherever he went. She turned into his shadow. Chloe rests her head on Darvish’s shoulders or lap whenever he is seated next to her, which is truly endearing to observe.
Shira stated that Chloe and Darvish were a perfect match and prayed for Chloe to fail her foster care placement. Thankfully, Shira’s desire was granted. Darvish’s decision to foster-fail means that Chloe now has a permanent home. Darvish stated that he could not conceive of his existence without her.
