Domestic Dispute Leads To Animal Abuse, Pit Bull Survives Fire And Becomes An Amazing Therapy Dog

Domestic Dispute Leads To Animal Abuse, Pit Bull Survives Fire And Becomes An Amazing Therapy Dog

Paquita Gillis September 11, 2022

Brandi Corrigan and her husband had a fight one early morning. The couple, both Florida residents, owns a couple of dogs, but the husband’s favorite is a pit bull named Denali.

When the man left, Brandi was still seething, and she wanted to cause her spouse some pain. Consumed by anger, she let all the dogs out, except for Denali.

Brandi doused the dog with an accelerant and splashed the chemical all over the house too. She then placed the pit bull inside the crate and lit a fire before getting out of their home.  The neighbors noticed the thick smoke coming out of the house and immediately called emergency services.

Third-degree burns

Thankfully, when the firefighters arrived at the scene, they were able to rescue Denali before the fir got to her. Nevertheless, the poor pooch suffered chemical burns on her back. Almost 35 percent of her body was injured.

Denali spent 16 days in the hospital. The rescuers were scared for her as the medical team said that each day was a challenge. The severely injured pet only had a fifty percent chance of surviving. Miraculously, towards the second week of her recovery, her condition stabilized. She was released from the hospital, but she had a long way to recover fully.

Therapy dog

Denali eventually healed and was adopted. For the next two years after her horrifying experience, she had done many wondrous things. Because of her sweet demeanor, the gentle pit bull underwent training as a therapy dog.

The amazing pooch went to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. There she comforted people with disabilities and serious injuries. Denali never fails to bring smiles to the faces of the people she meets. The pit bull even helps other rescue dogs open up and trust humans once again.

Denali has defied all odds and has become an inspiration to everyone.
