A middle school science teacher from Champaign, Illinois got the surprise of his life when he last went fishing. Instead of going home with some fresh fish, Bryant Fitz went on a rescue mission.
Submerged cage
The story started when Bryant went fishing in Lake Kaufman one day. While sitting in his spot, he noticed something by the edge of the lake. Curious, he got up and checked on it. When he got closer he realized that it was a puppy locked up inside a cage.
He couldn’t believe what he saw.
The dog’s cage was submerged halfway, and the pup was shivering in the freezing water. She wasn’t just cold, but she was also scared and confused.
Bryant wasted no time and started stripping off some of the layers of clothing that he was wearing. He then waded into the water to get the poor pooch. Once he was nearer, he grabbed hold of the cage and gently carried it back to dry land. He could see that the pup was very weak, and he had his doubts that she would make it.
Nevertheless, Bryant quickly brought her to an animal hospital. The vets quickly got to work when they arrived. The pup was suffering from hypothermia, and they needed to normalize her temperature. It took three hours just to do that.
They did notice, though, that the puppy had multiple wounds and was missing patches of hair. It was unrelated to her time in the water. This meant that she was abused even before she was thrown away.
In the meantime, she will be staying with the hospital and then transferred to the local shelter.
Future plans
Bryant couldn’t stop thinking about the abused pup. he had just recently lost his own dog and had actually gone around shelters trying to see if there was one that would be suitable for him to adopt. Then this puppy came into his life.
The good=hearted man said that he would wait until the dog has healed and is deemed adoptable by the shelter. When that happens, he would file for her adoption. Bryant feels that they were meant to be together.
